What are the Emerald Tablets of Thoth?

Home / What are the Emerald Tablets of Thoth?

What we know about the Emerald Tablets of Thoth comes to us from the work of Dr. Doreal. Little is known about Dr. Doreal aside from his connection to the Great White Lodge, a secret society committed to the advancement of metaphysical and spiritual knowledge. Dr. Doreal was tasked with recovering the tablets from the Great Pyramid, translating them, and then returning them. This was accomplished in 1925 and the text of the translation was published by the Brotherhood as the only authorized rendition.

There are people on both sides of the opinion spectrum. Dissenters insist that the Emerald Tablets never existed and while others insist that they have received many blessings and enlightenment through the study of the text. It has become a topic of hot debate as the popularity of the writings has risen in the last few decades. It is not, however, the goal of this article to decide upon its authenticity.

The original tablets are said to have been written by Thoth, the Atlantean. Thoth is credited with raising the Khem people of Egypt to great prominence. He is also credited with the building of the Great Pyramid over the top of the Great Halls of Amenti. It is within the Pyramid that he deposited his sacred records and writings, and selected from among his most loyal citizens men to stand guard to protect them.

The writings are contained on twelve tablets that are said to have been formed by alchemical transmutation. This protects them from deterioration through exposure to the elements, acids, and other corrosive materials. They have engraved upon them characters that make up the ancient Atlantean language. It’s claimed that if the reader is open to it, the characters will respond to his thought waves and release additional wisdom beyond that of the characters themselves.

The writings themselves were embraced immediately by those who embrace esoteric philosophy. Today they writings have had a resurgence and people are claiming to have obtained spiritual enlightenment and wisdom through the reading of them. The tablets have never been seen by anyone, and we may never know if the writings are legitimate, but it can’t be denied that they are having an impact on the spiritual fabric that is the foundation of our society. One can only read the writings and decide for himself whether or not the Emerald Tablets of Thoth contain messages that inspire personal spiritual growth.
